Ted Spear Founder's Scholarship
Island Pacific School seeks applicants for the Ted Spear Founder's Scholarship. This merit- and needs-based scholarship covers 65% of the school's annual tuition. It will be awarded to a Bowen Island resident entering Grade 8 who demonstrates an enthusiasm and commitment to learning both within and beyond the classroom walls.
The scholarship is open to new and current IPS students. New students are subject to the regular IPS admissions process, which includes both a written and oral assessment. All student applicants must write a 250-300 word response to the question: What does "Learning to make a difference" mean to you? Additionally, applicants should make themselves familiar with all aspects of the school's website.
All applicants will be interviewed by a panel comprised of the Head of School, Dr. Ted Spear, an IPS Alumni, and an IPS teacher. The successful candidate is expected to embrace the school's values of wisdom, courage, and integrity.
Parents of all scholarship applicants are required to submit a confidential form documenting their financial need. They must also demonstrate support for the school's mission.
The scholarship may be renewed for Grade 9 depending on the recipient's demonstrated commitment to participating in curricular, co-curricular, and extracurricular activities. This will be determined in February of 2010 by the Scholarship Review Committee.
The deadline for scholarship applications is 4:00p Monday, March 23rd. Assessment and interview dates will be scheduled shortly thereafter. Please contact the administrative director, Barb Bingham, for the scholarship application package.
