Global Education

The promotion of international-mindedness is an important aspect of the IB-MYP program and it takes different forms at IPS. Our Korean students live with local Bowen Island and Vancouver families. That local English-speaking, Bowen Island students integrate ESL peer students into every aspect of their lives at IPS reminds them—in a very real way—that the world extends far beyond the shores of their small Canadian island to include a Korean peninsula thousands of kilometers away.

The school’s global education program is partly informed by the United Nations Millennium Development Goals. Guest speakers are invited to present at student-led assemblies and share how their work in developing countries has changed the lives of others. They inevitably challenge IPS students to help resolve ongoing global issues. Finally, a portion of our community service program is dedicated to students becoming involved and making a difference in the lives of others.
