WANTED: Middle School Superhero
(6-9 Math\Science Teacher & Digital Tech Enthusiast)
Island Pacific School (IPS) is looking for a middle school superhero who will round out its core team of skilled and dedicated teachers. Established in 1995, IPS is a small, independent middle school located on Bowen Island, 20 minutes from West Vancouver. With only 50 students in grades 6-9, the school operates in the tradition of a small liberal arts community that sets out to transform students’ lives. Key elements of its program include outdoor expeditions, classes in reasoning and philosophy, community responsibilities, and the public defense of a 12-20 page Masterworks investigation. The school’s purpose is to equip and inspire students to cultivate their humanity. Island Pacific School is an International Baccalaureate World School that offers students the IB Middle years Programme.
IPS needs a grade 6-9 Math\Science teacher with an interest in digital teaching and learning. The attributes of an ideal candidate include:
- a passion for Science and Math
- a sense of humour
- significant life experience (i.e. travel, service, etc.)
- 2+ years of teaching experience working with middle school students
- interest in and\or experience with digital teaching & learning
- training in and\or experience with the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP)
- ability to teach MYP Design Technology
- a four or five year Bachelor of Education degree
- an ability to leap tall buildings in a single bound
The starting salary for teachers is $42,500-$45,000. Learning Resources Specialist
Island Pacific School is looking for a part-time Learning Resources Specialist beginning the 2011-12 school year, who is experienced and able to:
- work with and appropriately support individual students with a variety of academic challenges
- create Ministry-approved Individual Educational Plans (IEP's)
- create and submit special funding grant applications to the Ministry
- coordinate the learning assistance efforts of two other faculty members at the school
- communicate clearly to parents about support services being offered
- keep appropriate records of support given
The ideal candidate will have 3-10 years experience working as a Learning Resources Specialist in a school environment and will hold a Special Education degree or a Bachelor of Education with a Special Education designation.
This is a part-time position that requires the candidate to be at the school roughly 3.5 hrs\day from mid-morning to early afternoon. The salary is $20,000-$25,000, depending on responsibilities accepted.
